This is a draft. Lumo is in early access, and this page is a short, plain-language version. A reviewed version replaces it before paid plans launch.
The short version
In this version of Lumo, your library, your vocabulary and your progress live on your device, in your browser’s storage. We don’t need an account to let you read, and Lumo doesn’t show ads.
What stays on your device
- Texts, ebooks, subtitles and stories you add to your library.
- Your words, their statuses, your flashcards and review history.
- Your streak, daily goal and reading statistics.
Clearing your browser’s site data for Lumo deletes all of it, so export your vocabulary first if you want to keep a copy.
What leaves your device
- Lookups and translations. When you look up a word or translate a sentence, that text is sent to the dictionary or translation service that answers it.
- Web imports. When you import an article by link, the page is fetched so it can be turned into clean, readable text.
- YouTube. Videos are played through YouTube’s embedded player, which is covered by YouTube’s own privacy policy.
Coming later
Accounts, sync across devices and paid plans will change what we store. When they arrive, this page will say exactly what is kept, where, and for how long, before you’re asked to sign up.
